Happy Birthday George

So my wonderful husband turned 55 this past Sunday and I had gotten him a present but forgot the card so at midnight, I made him a quick little shirt card with my little love note on the inside..what do ya think?

So our 3 legged little kitten has a new name, and she thinks she is taking over the house. She has been in the kids diaper bags, in their car seats, and playpen, and now she is in the Halloween treats. She is adorable and a lot of fun to watch her run around.

Scrap Night

So we started our first scrapping night last week. We had 9 very fun and funny ladies of all ages. I think everyone had a great time even if the teacher goofed on the project directions:) Our first night we made little cookie gift boxes with peek a boo window in it. Each box had it's own little personality, just like the ladies.

Monday evening, I had only one attend and I had planned a 15 photo/journaling page layout. Of course if you know me, I ended up altering the layout. If you notice, some of you may say, "that's the page she made last week!" and you would be correct. I didn't quite like the page and still had a few pictures that went with it and didn't want to do a two page layout, and thanks to one of my online yahoo classes and instructor, she showed us how to make a page that could hold up to 15 photos. So you can see how I did mine.The red card stock is adhered to the 12x12 and there are photos on the front and inside of this piece of cardstock. If I had followed the original layout, there would be 9 3x5 photos or journaling on the 12x12, 3 3x5's on the front and inside page, totaling 15 photo layout, now how cool is that?

Penny worked on her cruise photos...she just returned from the Bahamas!!!! We used the Cricut to create a title, which was the name of the boat they were on the SENSATION. Her page came out really cute. I think she was very pleased.

On Tuesday, again I only had one guest for the evening and we made a Card Secretary. I made a slight mistake forgetting to tell her to get double sided cardstock, but it came out really cute. We had a fun evening of laughing and chatting. Of course we didn't get the project finished so next week we will be making the 6 cards, and tags to go on the inside of the Secretary and label her address book and stamp holder. I think Toni did a really nice job.

Christopher Hiscoe Scholarship Fundraiser

Hi Everyone,
Well I know some of you may or may not know that next Thursday, October 9th will be the 7th year that Chris has been gone. It's so hard to put the years on paper, as somedays, it still feels like yesterday.

Anyhow, when Chris died, a friend of his(Mark) had told us that Chris was so looking forward to Halloween that year, and that it was his favorite time of year, (I never knew that)!

His friend told us that Chris had said, "What other time of year can you go to a perfect strangers house, and go up and knock on the door and ask for candy!" (That was my boy! :)

So I thought I would try and do something in his memory this Halloween and this his 7th year anniversary and raise money for the scholarship fund. Every year, our family has given to the area schools from our own monies, and for a few years we received a grant from WalMart, that we so appreciated as it enabled us to give to just about everyone that applied those 2 years.

We never knew about doing fundraisers until a few years ago. We tried a few but we weren't too good at it, so for the most part my daughter Erica and myself, we would save to give to area students who were pursuing further education.

I have done craft shows every year, where I put the profits away to give for that years students. In the past 6 years, I think we have given to approximately 23 to 27 students. I should know how many but I hate to admit it, but I'm getting older and more forgetful:)

Phil 4:8 was Chris's favorite verse and I must say that I have to meditate on this verse often and thank God for the wonderful memories He has given me through Chris's life and through his friends and most of all, his brother and his sisters, and how my children have blessed my life.

Kittens

Here are our 4 little miracle kittens. "Kitten" who's real name is Ginger, had 7 kittens on Monday August 18th, but unfortunately only 4 survived. Then the rest of the story goes on....later that day we discovered that 3 kittens were entangled together and in their momma's tail also. We called the animal hospital, but it was just about closing time and she only offered advice by phone and would not see us. By morning one of the kittens paw was all black and limp. We went to the animal hospital and within 5 mins, all kittens were seperated, but we were given the news that the little calico would more than likely lose her paw. We would give it a day just in case circulation would reoccur, but it did not...so we now have a 3 legged kitten. She is beautiful as you can see in the pics...she will remain one of our family. Her name is now Patches...she's adorable. As you will notice in the pictures they still get all tangled into each other...they are so close :)

So I was on this website Paperjewels (I believe that's the name of the site) a few weeks ago and then this wonderful group that I just joined also shared this project so I thought I would share my first CD Photo Cube that I made for my baby girl Hannah who is headed off to Indiana Wesleyan University in August. So I thought I'd send her with family and friend pics for her desk where she could store her pens, and scissor and whatever else she will throw in there. After seeing this, my son Sam, who is in his second year at IWU, asked me if I would make one for his sweet girlfriend Kari for her bday...so in less than 2 hrs, I printed pictures and threw together a CD Cube for her...and now he'd like one for him with RedSox and Patriots for his bathroom and desk...go figure...I don't mind...it's kindof nice when they like something I make.

Here is the site that I originally got the design from..I must say that I had to enlarge the bottom base a little, about a 1/4" and I also used cardboard in my base covered with coordinating scrap paper. I then used liquid glass to glue it to the bottom and it doesn't show in these pics, but I also added it around the top of the bottom paper so it didn't sag on the cube. As you can see I added some funky ribbon that Debi sent me (Thank you Debi) that my daughter liked to her cube because I had used flowers, and other embellishments which caused the paper not to sit flush to the cube...it still looks cute, but I think a solid ribbon would work better for the effect I was trying to get.
